Phantasy Star Online Episode III: C.A.R.D. Revolution shifts the series from real-time action to turn-based card battles. You build decks of character, weapon, item and technique cards, then play them out on grid-based maps where positioning and action point costs determine what you can do each turn. The story is split between two opposing factions, the Hunters and the Arkz, each with their own campaign, characters and card pools. New cards are earned through play and used to refine decks for later battles. The game supports multiplayer matches alongside the single-player story, using the familiar Phantasy Star Online setting of Pioneer 2 and the planet Ragol for its plot and card artwork. Menus and battle presentation follow the look of the earlier GameCube releases.
