Platypus – PSP Game

Platypus is a horizontally scrolling shoot ’em up notable for its visual style: the ships, enemies, backgrounds and explosions are all built from photographed clay models, giving the whole game a handmade, plasticine look. You fly a small craft across side-scrolling stages, shooting waves of enemy ships and larger structures while dodging incoming fire, collecting weapon upgrades and power-ups that change your firing pattern. Stages end in encounters with larger craft that take sustained fire to bring down. The design follows the traditions of arcade-style shooters, with pattern learning and steady escalation of enemy numbers rather than branching progression. This PlayStation Portable release brings the game, originally released for computers, to Sony’s handheld with support for play in short sessions.
