PO’ed – PS1 Game

PO’ed is a first-person shooter in which you play a spaceship cook stranded aboard a vessel overrun by hostile creatures. Improvised weaponry sets it apart from its peers: alongside more conventional guns you fight with a frying pan and other kitchen implements, and a jetpack lets you rise off the ground and move vertically through the level geometry. Environments are maze-like and interconnected, with keys, switches and hidden routes to work out between fights, and the enemy designs lean toward the grotesque and cartoonish. The tone throughout is deliberately crude and comic rather than serious. The PlayStation version keeps the level-based structure and free vertical movement of the original design, offering a shooter that plays somewhat differently from the corridor-based titles common to the era.
