Pocahontas – Sega Genesis Game

Disney’s Pocahontas for the Sega Genesis is a side-scrolling action platformer based on the animated film. You control Pocahontas through natural environments of forest, river and cliffside, moving carefully rather than relying on combat, since she has no conventional attack. Instead you call on animal companions from the film, including Meeko the raccoon and Flit the hummingbird, whose different abilities let you reach items, distract obstacles and solve simple environmental puzzles. Progress depends on learning how each helper behaves and using them in the right place. The game also features cutscenes and music drawn from the film to carry the story between stages. Presentation makes heavy use of the Genesis colour palette for its woodland backdrops, and the overall pace is more measured and puzzle-oriented than most licensed platformers of the period.
