Quake – Nintendo 64 Game

Quake on the Nintendo 64 is a console conversion of id Software’s first-person shooter. You fight through gloomy medieval and industrial levels filled with knights, ogres, zombies and floating monsters, collecting keys and hitting switches to open the way forward. The arsenal covers the shotgun, nailgun, grenade and rocket launchers and the lightning gun, and levels hide armour, health and secret areas behind breakable walls and hidden passages. The N64 version runs on the console’s controller with analogue movement, and its levels have been reworked to fit the cartridge. Alongside the single-player campaign it includes split-screen deathmatch for local play. The atmosphere leans on dark textures, dungeon architecture and a heavy, ominous soundtrack rather than bright colour.
