R-Type Command – PSP Game

R-Type Command takes the R-Type universe and rebuilds it as a turn-based strategy game for the PlayStation Portable. Instead of piloting a single fighter through scrolling stages, you command a fleet on a grid map, deploying carriers, fighters and support craft, managing their fuel and positioning, and engaging Bydo forces unit by unit. Combat resolutions play out as short animated exchanges drawing on the series’ ship designs and weaponry. Between missions you develop and unlock new craft along branching production trees, so choices about what to build carry over. Campaigns are offered from more than one side of the conflict, and terrain, engagement range and the Force pod’s behaviour all matter tactically. It suits players who know R-Type’s fiction and hardware but want a slower, more deliberate style of play.
