Raystorm – PS1 Game

Raystorm is a vertically scrolling shoot-’em-up from Taito, presented with polygonal 3D graphics on a fixed overhead-angled view. You pilot a fighter craft through waves of enemy ships and large capital-ship bosses, using a rapid-fire main shot for targets on your own plane and a lock-on laser system for enemies sitting below you in the background. Holding the fire button paints multiple ground and lower-level targets, then releasing it sends homing beams into all of them at once, which encourages you to manage crowds rather than simply spray forward. Two selectable ships differ in speed and lock-on capacity. Stages scroll through space and over enemy installations with a synth-heavy soundtrack. The PlayStation release is a home conversion of the arcade original.
