Shadow Hearts – PS2 Game

A turn-based role-playing game for the PlayStation 2, set in Eurasia in the early twentieth century and blending historical settings with occult horror. You control Yuri Hyuga, a Harmonixer who can transform into monsters by fusing with the souls of creatures he defeats, alongside a party of companions he meets on the journey. Combat uses the Judgment Ring, a timing mechanic in which a needle sweeps around a circle and you must press a button inside marked segments to land attacks, cast magic or use items successfully. Yuri’s fusion powers come with a cost: his Malice rises as he fights, and letting it run unchecked has consequences. The story moves through cities, temples and dungeons in China and Europe, mixing dark subject matter with moments of odd humour.
