Sonic and Knuckles – Sega Genesis Game

Sonic and Knuckles is a 2D platformer for the Sega Genesis. You can play as Sonic, using the spin dash and the insta-shield, or as Knuckles, who glides through the air and climbs walls, which opens routes Sonic cannot reach. Zones run in two acts with boss fights, and the two characters take partly different paths through the game with their own endings. Collecting rings and finding giant rings hidden in the stages leads to bonus and special stages where Chaos Emeralds are contested. The cartridge includes lock-on technology: attaching Sonic the Hedgehog 3 combines the two games into a single longer adventure with save slots, while attaching Sonic the Hedgehog 2 lets you play that game as Knuckles. Level design mixes speed sections with climbing, water and machinery hazards.
