Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a side-scrolling platformer for the Sega Genesis. You run, jump and roll through loops, springs and corkscrews, collecting rings and freeing captured animals from robotic badniks on the way to boss encounters with Dr. Robotnik. This entry introduces Miles “Tails” Prower, who follows Sonic in single player and can be controlled by a second player at the same time. Sonic gains the spin dash, a charged burst of speed from a standstill, which helps with climbing slopes and breaking through enemies. Special stages are entered through giant rings and take place in a half-pipe where you gather rings while dodging bombs to earn Chaos Emeralds. Collecting them all lets Sonic transform into Super Sonic. A separate two-player split-screen race mode is included.
