Star Wars Episode I Racer puts you in the cockpit of a podracer for high-speed events inspired by The Phantom Menace. You pick a pilot and pod, then race through long courses full of tunnels, canyons, cliff edges and shortcuts, managing engine heat and repairing damage mid-race when your pod takes hits. Winning races earns money you can spend on upgraded parts from a junk dealer, improving acceleration, top speed, cooling and handling for tougher circuits. The roster includes Anakin Skywalker and Sebulba alongside other podracing pilots, and courses are set on Tatooine and other worlds. On Nintendo 64 the game supports split-screen play for two, and the Rumble Pak can be used for force feedback during collisions and boosts.
