Super Mario 64 moves the series into three dimensions, with Mario exploring Princess Peach’s castle and diving into paintings that lead to open, self-contained worlds. Each course holds several Power Stars, earned by beating a boss, racing a rival, gathering red coins, solving a puzzle, or finding secrets tucked into the scenery. Stars unlock doors deeper in the castle, so you can leave a difficult objective and return later. Mario’s move set is the core of the game: triple jump, long jump, wall kick, backflip, side somersault, ground pound, punches and a slow crawl, all mapped to the Nintendo 64 controller’s analogue stick and buttons. Caps found in boxes grant temporary flight, invisibility or metal form. The camera is controlled separately, framed as a Lakitu filming Mario’s adventure.
