Sword of Sodan is a side-scrolling hack-and-slash game for the Sega Genesis, converted from the Amiga original. You choose between a male or female warrior seeking revenge against the sorcerer who seized the kingdom, then fight your way through castle corridors, graveyards, dungeons and open country. The defining feature is scale: the character sprites are unusually large for the era, and combat is built around timing high and low sword strikes against skeletons, knights, giant enemies and other undead. Potions and items found along the way restore health or provide temporary help. Movement is deliberate and hits carry weight, so encounters tend to be about spacing and reading an opponent’s swing rather than fast button work. Digitized speech and gory finishing effects punctuate the action.
