Syd of Valis – Sega Genesis Game

Syd of Valis is a side-scrolling action platformer for the Sega Genesis set in the Valis series, presented with small, super-deformed characters rather than the taller sprites of the other games in the line. You move through stages fighting monsters with a sword, jumping across platforms and facing bosses at the end of areas, with a story told between levels through portrait-and-text scenes. Anime-styled cutscenes and dialogue frame the fantasy plot, while the gameplay itself keeps to straightforward run, jump and slash mechanics. Power-ups and magic abilities support the basic attack. The comedic art style is the main visual difference from the rest of the franchise, though the structure of stage-based combat and boss encounters will be familiar to players of other Genesis platformers.
