The Getaway – PS2 Game

The Getaway is an open-world action game set in a large recreation of central London, built around real street layouts and landmarks. The story follows Mark Hammond, a former criminal pulled back into the underworld, and a police detective whose path crosses his, with each campaign covering the same events from a different side. Missions mix driving through city traffic with third-person gunfights on foot, including cover use and hostage grabs. The presentation strips away the on-screen interface: instead of a map, your car’s indicators flash to show which turn to take, and injuries are shown through blood on your character’s clothing rather than a health bar. Recovery comes from leaning against a wall to catch your breath. Cutscenes use motion-captured performances and a crime-film tone throughout.
