Way of the Samurai is an action game set in Japan during the Meiji era, as the old feudal order gives way to modernization. You arrive as a wandering swordsman at a valley caught between rival factions and a village stuck in the middle, and how you treat each group shapes the story. Playthroughs are deliberately short, spanning a few in-game days, and the game is built around replaying them to see different outcomes and endings. Combat uses sword stances and blocking, with different blades offering different movesets; swords can be collected, named and carried into later playthroughs. Conversations frequently branch, and refusing or accepting a request can turn allies into enemies. Choices accumulate quickly, so a single decision early on can close off entire paths.
