Yoshi’s Story – Nintendo 64 Game

Yoshi’s Story is a side-scrolling platformer for the Nintendo 64 with a storybook presentation, using pop-up pages, cloth and fabric textures, and hand-crafted looking backgrounds rendered in 3D. You control a Yoshi moving through 2D stages, using flutter jumps, ground pounds and the familiar tongue grab to swallow enemies and turn them into eggs, which can then be thrown at targets and switches. Rather than reaching a goal marker, the aim in each stage is to eat fruit; finishing a level requires collecting a set amount, and eating the fruit a Yoshi prefers boosts your score. Losing a Yoshi reduces the ones available to you for the rest of the run. Progress through the pages branches, so different routes lead to different stages.
