An action-adventure in which you play as Link, a boy from Kokiri Forest who is drawn into a conflict over the Triforce and the fate of Hyrule. The game moves the series into 3D, with an open field connecting towns, dungeons and landmarks, and a lock-on targeting system that keeps enemies centred during sword fights. You gather items such as the bow, hookshot and bombs, each of which opens new routes through dungeons and the overworld. Time is central to the story: Link travels between his childhood and an adult era, and puzzles often depend on which period you are in. The ocarina itself is played by entering note sequences on the controller buttons, producing songs that change weather, warp you across the map and unlock doors. Horseback riding, fishing and side quests fill out the world between dungeons.
