Faxanadu – NES Game

Faxanadu is a side-scrolling action role-playing game for the NES. You play a wandering swordsman who returns to his home town at the base of the great World Tree to find it drained of water and overrun by monsters. Play mixes platforming and combat with light RPG structure: you buy weapons, armour, magic and keys from shops in the towns dotted through the tree, and gold dropped by enemies funds better gear. Progress is saved through mantras, password phrases given by guru characters. The tree’s interior forms a connected series of caverns, towers and passages, with locked doors and springs that gate your route until you find the right item. Magic spells cast projectiles and are drawn from a separate meter, giving you options against tougher enemies and bosses.
