Kid Icarus – NES Game

Kid Icarus is an action platformer for the NES in which you play as Pit, an angel armed with a bow, working his way out of the underworld and up toward the realm ruled by Medusa. The early stages scroll vertically, requiring careful jumps between platforms while shooting at enemies above and around you, and later areas shift to horizontal scrolling and dungeon mazes with a map and a boss to defeat. Hearts dropped by enemies act as currency in shops, where you can buy items and healing. Hidden chambers offer upgrades to your health, arrows and mobility, though some are guarded or come with a catch. Fortresses hold treasures and keys, and Pit gains new equipment such as wings and protective items as the game progresses.
