The Super Nintendo version of the updated arcade basketball game. You control two players per side in fast, exaggerated matches with no fouls and no free throws. Dunks are launched from well outside the paint, the backboard shakes, and stringing together made shots puts a player on fire with boosted speed and shooting until the streak breaks. Tournament Edition expands on the original NBA Jam with substitutions, hidden characters, and options that change the rules of a match. Teams and rosters are drawn from the NBA, and an announcer reacts to dunks, blocks and long-range shots. There are single-player games against the CPU as well as multiplayer, and the SNES pad’s button layout maps shooting, passing and turbo to separate buttons.
