Shatterhand – NES Game

Shatterhand is a side-scrolling action platformer for the NES in which you play a cyborg who fights bare-fisted rather than with a gun. Punching is your main attack, and you can also destroy certain blocks and objects in the environment. The game’s central mechanic involves collecting alpha and beta icons; the combination you pick up summons a robot companion that flies alongside you, and different pairings produce different helper types with different attacks. After an opening stage you choose the order in which you tackle the game’s areas from a selection screen, each ending in a boss fight. Levels are built around enemy waves, hazards and platforming, with power-ups and health items hidden in destructible scenery and side rooms.
