Star Tropics – NES Game

An overhead action-adventure for the NES in which you play Mike Jones, a young American baseball player who travels to a tropical island chain in search of his missing archaeologist uncle. Mike’s main weapon is a yo-yo, and he can find other items and upgrades as he explores. Movement inside dungeons is grid-based: your character hops from tile to tile, so combat and platforming both become puzzles about spacing and timing, with collapsing floors, moving platforms and blocks to shove into place. Between dungeons you visit island villages, talk to locals and follow the trail of clues left behind. The story is told through cutscenes and dialogue between chapters, and the mix of light puzzle-solving, boss fights and exploration carries through to the end of the adventure.
