The follow-up to StarTropics on the NES, again starring Mike Jones. The overhead adventure structure returns, with grid-based movement in dungeons, tile puzzles, collapsing floors and block-pushing sections between fights, along with towns and overworld areas to explore and characters to talk to. Mike’s yo-yo is joined by additional weapons and items found over the course of the game. The plot sends him through different time periods, where he encounters figures drawn from history and legend while pursuing the alien villain Zoda. Cutscenes and dialogue carry the story between chapters, and boss encounters cap off the dungeon areas. If you played the first game, the controls and puzzle vocabulary will feel immediately familiar, with new environments and set pieces built around them.
