Super Mario Bros. 3 is a side-scrolling platformer for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Play as Mario or Luigi across a series of themed worlds, each presented as an overworld map with branching paths, hidden routes, Toad Houses, and roaming Hammer Bros. to avoid or fight. Suits and power-ups expand what you can do: the Super Leaf gives a raccoon tail for tail-whipping enemies and flying after a running start, the Frog Suit improves swimming, the Tanooki Suit allows a statue form, and the Hammer Suit lets you throw hammers. Airships, fortresses, and Koopaling boss fights cap off sections of the journey, with Bowser waiting at the end. Two players can alternate turns, with a competitive mini-game triggered when both land on the same map space.
