The Punisher – NES Game

The Punisher for the Nintendo Entertainment System is a shooting gallery-style action game based on the Marvel Comics vigilante. Frank Castle appears at the bottom of the screen while you move a targeting crosshair around the play area, firing at gunmen, vehicles and other threats as the backdrop scrolls forward through each stage. Enemies fire back, and you either shoot incoming bullets and attackers or take damage, so the game is largely about reaction speed and tracking multiple targets at once. Ammunition and health pickups appear during levels, and stages close with a larger boss encounter that requires you to find and hit weak points. Between missions, story panels drawn in a comic style set up the next target in Castle’s campaign against organised crime.
