After Burner – Sega 32X Game

After Burner on the Sega 32X is a home conversion of Sega’s arcade jet combat game, using the add-on’s extra processing power for a smoother, faster take on the original. You fly a fighter jet from a chase camera positioned behind the aircraft, banking left and right and rolling to dodge as enemy planes and missiles pour toward you. Your armament is a rapid-firing cannon plus a limited stock of homing missiles, and lock-on targeting is central to clearing the swarms of oncoming aircraft. Stages run in a continuous sequence over sea, desert and night skies, with refuelling sequences between some of them. The game is built around pure arcade pacing and reflex play, with a high score to chase rather than any mission structure.
