Bionic Commando – Gameboy Game

A handheld take on Capcom’s side-scrolling action series for the original Game Boy. You control a commando equipped with a bionic grappling arm, and the arm does most of the work that a jump button would normally do: you fire it upward or diagonally to latch onto platforms and ceilings, then swing or reel yourself up to reach higher ground. Levels are built around this vertical movement, mixing gunfights against enemy soldiers and installations with careful grapple work over gaps and hazards. Boss encounters cap off areas and ask you to keep swinging while shooting. The monochrome presentation keeps sprites large and readable, and the emphasis throughout is on learning the reach and timing of the arm rather than on twitch platforming.
