Code Name Viper – NES Game

Code Name: Viper is a side-scrolling run-and-gun game for the NES. You play a special agent sent into South America to break up a drug-trafficking operation, moving left to right through city streets, jungle outposts and enemy compounds. Your agent can shoot standing, crouching or while jumping, and doorways set into the backgrounds can be entered to find hostages to free, extra ammunition and hidden rooms, so exploring the layout matters as much as shooting. Enemies attack from both the foreground and background planes, and levels close out with tougher opponents guarding the exit. Between missions, story sequences advance the plot and hint at a traitor within the organisation. The pace is brisk, with limited lives and enemies that appear quickly, rewarding careful movement over rushing forward.
