Commando – NES Game

Commando is a run-and-gun shooter converted from the Capcom arcade game. You control a lone soldier dropped into enemy territory, moving up the screen on foot while enemy troops pour in from all sides. Your rifle fires in eight directions and you carry a limited supply of grenades that can be lobbed over walls and into bunkers and trenches. A single hit kills you, so play centres on reading enemy patterns, using cover and clearing paths before you advance. Levels are broken up by fortified gates and boss encounters, and prisoners can be freed along the way. The NES version keeps the vertical scrolling structure and constant forward pressure of the arcade original, with score tracked as you go.
