The Legacy of Goku II is an action role-playing game viewed from an overhead perspective. You explore connected areas of the Dragon Ball Z world, fighting enemies in real time with punches, kicks, and energy attacks while managing health and ki gauges. Characters gain experience and levels, and you can learn new techniques and equip capsules that adjust stats and abilities. Several playable characters from the series become available as the story progresses, each with their own moves, and you switch between them at set points. The plot follows the Android and Cell portions of the story, with dialogue scenes between exploration and combat. Side quests and optional areas give you extra items and experience alongside the main path.
