Final Fantasy Legend – Gameboy Game

A Game Boy role-playing game and the first entry in the series known in Japan as SaGa. You assemble a party of four from three character types: humans, who grow by buying and using stat-boosting items and weapons with limited uses; mutants, who gain abilities semi-randomly after battles; and monsters, who transform into different creatures by eating meat dropped by defeated enemies. There are no experience levels in the usual sense, so party growth depends on how you equip and feed your characters. The story sends you up a great tower connecting a series of separate worlds, each with its own setting and cast, culminating at the top. Battles are turn-based random encounters, and weapons and spells are consumed as you use them.
