Goal – Gameboy Game

Goal is a football game for the Game Boy, presenting eleven-a-side matches on the handheld’s monochrome screen. You control one outfield player at a time, with the game switching your control to the teammate nearest the ball, and use the two buttons to pass, shoot and tackle. The pitch scrolls to follow play, with a small radar or on-screen indicator helping you keep track of positions off-screen. You pick a national side and work through matches, and the game includes free-kicks, corners and other set pieces alongside standard play. Difficulty comes from timing shots and reading the computer opponent’s positioning. Presentation is functional, with simple sprite players, crowd backdrops and short animations for goals, suited to quick matches on the go.
