Gradius – NES Game

Gradius is a horizontal-scrolling shooter in which you pilot the Vic Viper starfighter through a series of stages against an alien force. Its defining feature is the power-up system: defeated enemies drop capsules that advance a highlighted meter along the bottom of the screen, letting you choose when to cash in for speed-ups, missiles, a double or laser shot, Options that trail your ship and mirror your fire, or a shield. Building a loadout means deciding whether to spend capsules early or save for stronger upgrades. Stages include volcanic terrain, enemy fortresses and the series’ Moai heads, each ending in a boss encounter. Dying costs your upgrades, so recovery becomes part of the challenge on this NES version.
