Mario’s Picross is a puzzle game for Game Boy built around nonogram grids. Numbers along the rows and columns tell you how many squares in that line are filled and in what groups, and you chisel out the correct squares to reveal a simple picture. You can mark squares you believe are empty to keep track of your deductions. Puzzles are attempted under a time limit, and incorrect chisels cost you time, so careful reasoning is rewarded over guessing. Grids grow larger and the logic more involved as you work through sets of puzzles. Mario appears as the miner theme and presentation wrapper, with a hint feature that can reveal a line for a penalty. The interface is designed for the Game Boy’s controls and monochrome screen.
