Nintendo World Cup – NES Game

An arcade-style soccer game for the NES with cartoon-styled players and small-sided teams. Matches are viewed from an angled overhead perspective as you dribble, pass, tackle and shoot. Rules are loose by design: hard slide tackles can knock opponents flat and out of play for a time, and charged super shots can send the ball through defenders and past the keeper. Playing fields vary in surface, including hazards and uneven ground that affect how the ball rolls and bounces. You can take on a series of teams in single player or play head-to-head against a friend, and each squad has its own strengths. Presentation is bright and comedic rather than simulation-focused, with short animations for goals, saves and injured players.
