Pac-in-Time – Gameboy Game

Pac-in-Time is a side-scrolling platform game for the Game Boy starring Pac-Man, who is sent back in time and stripped of much of his usual power. Instead of simply moving through mazes eating dots, you run and jump through multi-level stages, avoiding enemies and hazards and collecting the pellets scattered through each one. A rope you can fire and swing from is central to the design, letting you cross gaps, climb to higher ledges and reach otherwise inaccessible areas, and further abilities open up new ways to solve the platforming and puzzle layouts. Stages are built around exploration and careful navigation rather than speed, with hidden routes to find. The presentation uses the black-and-white handheld’s simple sprite work and familiar Pac-Man iconography.
