Strider – NES Game

Strider for the Nintendo Entertainment System is an action platformer starring the operative Hiryu, armed with the Cypher, a plasma blade used at close range. Rather than following the arcade game stage for stage, this version builds a connected world: you travel between locations around the globe, revisiting areas as you gain new abilities and items that open previously blocked paths. Hiryu can climb and cling to surfaces, slide, and use gadgets acquired through the adventure. Story sequences delivered through on-screen dialogue set up each mission and its targets, with boss encounters closing out major objectives. The mix of exploration, backtracking and fast melee combat gives it a different structure from the arcade game that shares its name and central character.
