Super Mario Bros. is a side-scrolling platformer for the Nintendo Entertainment System. You control Mario, running and jumping through the Mushroom Kingdom to rescue Princess Toadstool from Bowser. Levels are grouped into worlds, each ending with a castle stage and a boss encounter. Along the way you stomp Goombas, dodge Koopa Troopas, and break bricks overhead to uncover coins and power-ups. The Super Mushroom makes Mario larger and lets him take an extra hit, the Fire Flower allows him to throw fireballs, and the Starman grants brief invincibility. Warp Pipes lead to underground coin rooms and, in some cases, to later worlds. Hidden blocks, vines to cloud areas, and secret shortcuts reward exploration. A second player can alternate turns as Luigi. Controls are simple: run, jump, and time your landings on moving hazards.
