Tournament Fighters takes the Turtles out of the side-scrolling beat-’em-up format and drops them into a one-on-one fighting game. You pick a character, then face a series of opponents in best-of-three rounds, using punches, kicks, throws and special moves performed with directional motions. Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael each fight with their own weapon and reach, and the roster fills out with allies and enemies from the Turtles universe. A super meter builds during the fight and unlocks a stronger attack when charged. Modes include a single-player run with story sequences between bouts, a two-player versus option, and a tournament setup. Backgrounds are drawn in the bright comic-styled art the series is known for on the Super Nintendo. Note that the Genesis and NES games sharing this title have different rosters and content.
