The Smurfs – Gameboy Game

The Smurfs is a side-scrolling platform game for the Game Boy based on the long-running comic and cartoon series. You control a Smurf making his way through stages set in the woods, caves and other locations familiar from the cartoon, running and jumping between platforms, avoiding hazards and dodging or evading the creatures in your path. Progress is a matter of learning each stage’s layout and timing your jumps, with a limited stock of lives to work with. The presentation uses the black-and-white Game Boy screen, with sprite versions of the Smurfs and their village. It is a straightforward licensed platformer aimed at a younger audience, with short levels and simple controls that stick to movement and jumping.
