Xenon 2 – Gameboy Game

Xenon 2 is a vertically scrolling shooter adapted for the Game Boy. You pilot a lone craft through waves of enemies and organic-looking hazards, dodging fire while clearing the screen and facing large bosses at the end of stages. A distinctive feature of the design is that your ship can move backwards as well as forwards through the scrolling level, letting you retrace ground you have already covered. Between stages you visit a shop where currency picked up in combat can be spent on weapon upgrades, shields, speed boosts and side pods, so loadout choices carry forward and shape how later levels play. The handheld version presents the action in monochrome on a single screen, with tight corridors and heavy enemy patterns demanding careful positioning rather than pure speed.
