Joe and Mac – SNES Game

Joe and Mac is a prehistoric side-scrolling action platformer for the Super Nintendo. You play a caveman, or team up with a second player for co-operative play, chasing down the rival tribe that has carried off your clan’s cave women. Progress runs left to right through jungles, caves, snowy peaks and volcanic terrain, with throwable weapons such as clubs, bones, boomerangs and fire collected along the way and hurled at oncoming enemies. Dinosaurs, insects, carnivorous plants and rival cavemen attack in patterns, and large boss creatures cap off stages. Food pickups restore health, and a world map links the levels together. The SNES version uses bright, cartoonish sprite work and animated backgrounds, and its combat rewards spacing and weapon choice as much as jumping accuracy.
