Star Wars Episode I Racer for Game Boy Color adapts the podracing of The Phantom Menace to a handheld. You race high-speed pods along winding courses, steering between canyon walls, tunnels and open stretches while trying to hold a racing line at speed. Courses are based on locations from the film, and you compete against a field of rival pilots drawn from the podracing circuit. Contact with walls and obstacles damages your pod, so avoiding collisions matters as much as raw pace, and finishing position determines your progress through the racing circuit. The game uses scaling sprite graphics to convey speed on the Game Boy Color’s screen, with a simple control scheme built around steering and acceleration rather than complex handling systems.
