Zanac – NES Game

Zanac is a vertically scrolling shooter for the Nintendo Entertainment System. You pilot a lone fighter over continuously scrolling terrain, facing waves of enemy craft, ground turrets, and large fortress structures. Alongside a standard forward-firing main gun, you collect numbered power-ups that switch between distinct secondary weapons, each with its own firing pattern and behavior, and can level them up by grabbing the same type repeatedly. A separate shield item provides temporary protection. The game is known for adjusting the intensity of enemy attacks in response to how you play, so the pressure rises as you destroy more targets and power up. Stages run one into the next with boss encounters and heavily defended installations punctuating the action. Single player, with fast movement and dense bullet patterns throughout.
