Bill and Ted’s Excellent Video Game – NES Game

An NES game built around the time-travelling premise of the Bill and Ted films. You guide the pair through side-scrolling stages set in different historical eras, moving between them using phone booths and a time-circuit map. The goal involves tracking down historical figures and returning them where they belong, which means exploring each era, talking to or grabbing the right people, and managing an inventory of items picked up along the way. Movement and jumping are handled in platformer fashion, with hazards and enemies to avoid rather than a deep combat system. Progress depends on figuring out which items and characters are needed where, so a fair amount of trial and backtracking between time periods is part of the design. Presentation leans on the films’ comedic tone.
