Darkman for the NES is a side-scrolling action game based on the film about Peyton Westlake, a scientist left disfigured and able to wear synthetic masks that copy other faces. You move through city stages on foot, punching and grappling with thugs who stand between you and the men responsible for your condition, with the disguise angle used to frame the story between stages. Movement is straightforward platform fare: run, jump, climb and time your attacks against enemies who approach in waves, with tougher opponents waiting at the end of a stage. Levels are built around short, repeated encounters rather than exploration, and running out of health sends you back to try the sequence again. A single-player licensed action title from the era when film tie-ins were common on the system.
