This NES game adapts the Tom Clancy submarine thriller as a side-scrolling action title. You control a nuclear submarine seen from the side, moving it up and down to navigate undersea caverns, ice, and other tight terrain while enemy vessels and hazards come at you from ahead. Torpedoes and other weapons let you clear the way, and careful positioning is often as important as firing, since collisions with the environment are a constant threat. Stages string together stretches of hazardous water with enemy encounters, and you work through them one section at a time. The presentation uses a mix of underwater backdrops and briefing-style screens between missions to frame the pursuit of the submarine across the ocean.
