Joe and Mac – NES Game

Joe and Mac is a prehistoric side-scrolling action platformer for the Nintendo Entertainment System. You play as a caveman whose tribe’s women have been carried off by a rival clan, and you fight your way through jungles, caves, snowfields and volcanic areas to get them back. Combat centres on throwable weapons, including clubs, bones, boomerangs and fire, which are collected during stages and hurled at enemies at range. Along the way you face dinosaurs, plants, insects and rival cavemen, with large boss creatures waiting at the end of stages. Food items restore health, and the cartoon caveman theme runs through the enemy designs and backgrounds. The NES version condenses the arcade original’s presentation while keeping its run-and-throw structure.
