Killer Instinct – SNES Game

Killer Instinct brings the arcade fighter to the Super Nintendo, using pre-rendered character sprites and layered backgrounds to imitate a 3D look on 2D hardware. Fights are one-on-one over two rounds, and the combo system is the centrepiece: openers lead into linkers and auto-doubles, building long chains that end in enders or extended Ultra finishes. Combo breakers give the defender a way out, which keeps matches from becoming one-sided. Each character has their own special moves and gruesome finishing attacks, and stage backgrounds range from industrial settings to icy and gothic locales. Modes cover single-player progression through the roster as well as two-player versus matches. The soundtrack and announcer callouts carry over from the arcade version, with the audio compressed to fit the cartridge.
